NOVICE HOCKEY

There are currently three novice hockey groups that call the North Iowa Ice Arena their "Home Ice". The Senior Novice League and River City Blues practice and play at the North Iowa Ice Arena. If you are interested in getting involved in any of these organizations, the following information will help you get in contact with the appropriate individuals.

SENIOR NOVICE LEAGUE

Games are played on Sunday nights at the arena. Please contact Shawn Graven at 641-420-0327 or Paul Mattson at 641-420-7351 for information.  Currently, there are four teams on Sunday night, beginning at 7:00pm, playing two games per night.  Players are put on a specific team, and will usually play on that team throughout the year.  There is a year-end tournament, with a trophy given to the winning team.  This league is for players 30 years old or older, or 25 years old with no hockey experience.  Exceptions to these limits are made on a case by case basis.

RIVER CITY BLUES

Upper midwest hockey league teams include:

  • River City Blues
  • Rochester Fossils
  • Waterloo Griffins
  • Cedar Rapids Northlanders
  • Waverly LumberJacks
  • Quad Cities Stars
  • Cedar Falls Banana Slugs
  • Dubuque River Dogs
  • Albert Lea Blades

The upper midwest hockey league was first started in 1995 by an adult B player that wanted to play hockey at the same skill level. In 1995 we began with only four teams and just played several head-to-head games. In 1996 we voted in two more teams, a President, Vice President, League Secretary and Board Members. We also held our first "End Of The Year Tournament" for the League Championship. In 1997 we voted in two more teams. Today we have our Season Kick Off Tournament, a few mini- tournaments and the head-to-head travel and home games before the year-end league championship.
