Members Present: Geri Maulsby, Pam Metli, Jerry Gribben, Dave Hepperly, Kristin McHenry, John Wagner, Mike Butler, John Llyod, Stacie Lancaster, Bob Barnes and Craig Osland. Minutes: August minutes were reviewed. Geri motions to accept the minutes. Jerry seconds the motion. Motion approved. Figure Skaters: Pam made up a schedule for the figure skater with all the conflicting times/dates. This was presented and gone over with the figure skating president, Jean Moore. Financials: Mike presented financials. Questions arose on the interest income. Mike to investigate further. Mike will meet with former treasurer, George Jessen, to go over the budget and develop a new budget for this year. Note: Concessions and admissions were down in 2006 from 2005. Arena Set-Up: John Lloyd reports that the dirt will be out Sunday night. Monday they will start cleaning, and hopefully the glass will be up by Tuesday. Lighting System: We don’t have a quote yet from Alliant Energy. North Iowa Fair Board is questioning the amount they will have to pay; in the months they have the building, if the new lighting system is installed. PA System: Dave reports that the bid from Dennis Higgins is back at $11,122.00. Grant: Dave reports that Deb Lassise and him have written a grant and have it ready to turn into Worth Co. In the grant we have asked them to fund the new PA system and the new heating system. Fair Board Meeting: Pam Metli and George Jessen attended the last fair board meeting. The fair board told us they have no money to help the hockey association. They did however mention that they received some grant money to buy paint. The doors and overhead doors will be painted and according to our contract Mason City Youth Hockey will have to pay for the labor to get these door painted. They also approached Mason City youth Hockey and requested that we help pay the electric/light bill for they lights that run out to the Highway. They also wanted us to increase the amount of snow removal we pay for to 40%. Discussion was held and we will not be helping the fair board pay for that portion of the electric/light bill or be raising the snow removal amount to 40%. Registration Advertising: Bob Barnes reported that the ad in the globe gazette was done. He will get with Hal Hoffman to set up advertising on the radio. High School: John Wagner reports that this years Midwest Hockey League bill will be $1,900. This is down from last year. Busing: The bids are in for transportation. John suggests we go with Windstar Lines. Mike motions to go with Windstar Lines for High School transportation. Craig seconds the motion. Motion approved. State Tournaments: JV and Varsity state tournaments will always be held in Ames. Eligibility: Discussion was held on eligibility status. High School player must be eligible in their own school to play sports to be able to play hockey. As long as a player holds enough credits to play at their own high school they will be able to play Mason City High School Hockey. High School Trainer: Pam motions that we keep Michelle Bamrick as the high school trainer. Jerry seconds the motion. Motion approved. Photo Night: Photo night has been scheduled for November 12 th, 2007. Travel Jerseys: Pam reports that they were ordered without STOP patches. The STOP patches that the company was going to put on were the wrong size and color and we did not like where they were going to be put on the jersey. We will have a seamstress sew regulation STOP patches on the jerseys when they arrive. Travel Coaches: Coaching situation was reviewed. We still need more coaches to help out. Referee Clinic: Stacie hopes to get Alan Stolt on September 29, 2007. Fundraising: Mike reports that the final bills on the golf outing are not in. Board Member Replacement: Pam nominates Jeff Cornick to take the place of Julie Fistler on the board. Bob motions to accept Jeff Cornick. Jerry seconds the motion. Discussion was held. A vote was held. All in favor, motion carried. Wages: Pam reports that we have not looked at coaching wages for many years. Right now High School coach Mark Hicks receives $900 a month for 5 months. Pam presented a break down in hours of what a head coach does for our high school team. Discussion was held. Bob motions that MCYHA pay a head high school coach $5,000 and an assistant coach $1,250 over 5 months. Dave seconds the motion. A vote was held: 8 in favor 2 opposed. Motion for the pay increase approved. Pam reports that a compensation package was once established for John Lloyd. After investigation this was never followed through on. More research is needed on what the compensation package all entailed. Discussion tabled until the next meeting. Jerry motions for adjournment. Dave seconds the motion. Meeting adjourned at 8:50 pm. ADDENDUM: The referee clinic will be held here October 20, 2007. Johnathon Morrison will be running the clinic.
