Hockey Registration General Information

Registration fees will be at the time of registration. The registration fee may be paid by check or cash (no credit cards). The North Iowa Ice Sports Association, youth hockey is part of that, is a member of the Midwest League and Tri-State Affiliate. As a member in good standing we must abide by certain rules and standards, and in return, we are able to register our program's skaters, coaches, teams and tournaments. In order for any team associated with the North Iowa Ice Sports Association (NIISA) to practice, play or travel they must be registered with USA Hockey through our association.

When can Kids Begin Skating and Playing Hockey?
Participation can actually begin as early as a boy or girl can walk. There is a Learn to Skate program for anyone who need help in the basics of skating and to learn the game of hockey. Specific dates and times will be set up for this program. Check with us at registration. Any child must be registered with the association before they can step foot on the ice.

Changes for 2003-2004
Learn-to-skate (Do not need Hockey Gear)
The program is available to beginning skaters and their parents. As soon as the skaters are comfortable they will be moved into Initiation.

Initiation is for developing our mites and is devoted to skill development. There will be certain skills to master before the skaters can move up to IceHawk house teams. Periodically through the season as skaters master their skills they will be moved up into IceHawk House. Initiation is also for new coaches to get involved in our program.

Mites
A travel team will not be formed until the players are at the Squirt age. This is subject to change in the future.

Squirts
Squirt Travel A will practice 3 times per week and play travel games on weekends. Squirt Travel A will be in the SuperHawk house team and Squirt non-travel will be in the IceHawk house team.

Pee Wee Travel
Travel A will practice and travel as a team and will play in house. The non-traveling Pee Wee skaters will play in the non-checking SuperHawk house league. Why? Numbers. A few years ago we had 55 Pee Wee age skaters, this year we forecast 38. Our numbers are hourglass shaped with strong numbers in the Bantams and High School and big numbers in the Mites.

Bantams
Bantams are travel only A. 3 practice sessions per week with 2 of the 3 practices done by 10 p.m.
