ABOUT US
The North Iowa Ice Sports Association
(also known as the Mason City Youth Hockey Association), is a 30 year-old
non-profit volunteer organization. It provides ice sports activities for
nearly 200 North Iowa youth hockey players, 50 adult players and approximately
150 figure skaters, who are members of the North Iowa Figure Skating Club.
Our skaters practice and compete for six months each year, in the North
Iowa Recreational Arena, located on the fairgrounds on the west edge of
Mason City on Highway 122. (see map).
In addition, a girl's and women's hockey team is in it's third season and
is growing strong. Interest has also been expressed in forming broomball
teams and even a curling team. As a service to the community, we open the
doors for public skating. Last season, the arena was open to public skating
for 180 hours. Groups and parties can also rent the arena for get-togethers
during ice season. For more details on the association, how it got started
and a little about its history, see Youth Hockey: Its Impact on North Iowa.
As a result of the interest in all of these skating activities, and
our desire to provide them to all North Iowans, our association is
undergoing a name change that more accurately depicts its function.
Thus, North Iowa Ice Sports Association (NIISA) will be the umbrella
name for the organization. If you're an alumnus, you will always be
able to access this site through Mason City Youth Hockey Association.

Volunteerism
The association is deeply
indebted to all the people who give freely of their time and money
each year to make this organization highly successful year after
year. Thank you! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact
a board member or e-mail us at info@niisa.org.

A
Word of Thanks to Our Sponsors...
We all are very appreciative
of your generous and continuing support. Without you, we would not
be able to have the quality ice program we offer to North Iowans.
Through your support, we have managed to hold down the ever escalating
cost of ice hockey. This enables an even greater number of youth
to participate in this exciting and rewarding sport.
We ask that our members remember to thank you for your involvement
and support. We encourage our members to patronize your business
throughout the year as a token of our appreciation.
Once again, thanks for your support of our hockey program. Our entire
family sends its warmest regards and appreciation.

Concessions
The concession stand
is operated by volunteers from our association. It is the successful
coordination of volunteers who donate their time and energies which
makes concessions profitable. It is a major reason why we're able
to keep hockey fee increases to a minimum each year. During house
practices and games, each team is responsible for having one volunteer
parent work in the concession stand.

Maintenance
The budget for arena
operation and maintenance is just under $300,000 for the six months
we occupy the arena. Our association is responsible for all maintenance
during that time. This includes maintaining the Zamboni resurfacing
machine as well as all ice making equipment. Help our staff take
care of it.
